2010 Fashion Roundup - no.2 - Gaga's Meat Dress

After  the 2010 MTV music awards, you'd think the gossip headlines would be about the winners. Maybe the performances. And possibly the backstage drama.

But no, the always shocking Lady Gaga saw that the headlines were all about her! How did she do it? It was not due to her winning 8 awards, the most won by a single performer in 23 years. No, to ensure to reach the front pages, Gaga put on a performance of her own. She ended the event wearing a meat dress, complete with a matching steak handbag, hat, and boots.  To accessorize the 40 pounds of meat, the singer wore an oversize diamond necklace. Obviously, because I always team my meat outfits with some jewels :S

So what was her point in the madness?!  Fashion, animal protection, art, or just a publicity stunt? Appearing on the Ellen DeGeneres show afterwards, Gaga explained :

"Well, it is certainly no disrespect to anyone that is vegan or vegetarian. As you know, I am the most judgment-free human being on the earth. However, it has many interpretations but for me this evening. If we don't stand up for what we believe in and if we don't fight for our rights, pretty soon we're going to have as much rights as the meat on our own bones. And, I am not a piece of meat."

Oh..... glad she cleared that one up!

Collecting an award, after asking Cher to hold her meat clutch

“Like performance dressers Madonna and Grace Jones before her, people are always interested to see what Gaga will put on next, whether it’s a dress made of steak, a Philip Treacy hat or a McQueen masterpiece.” – Sarah Harris, Vogue fashion features writer. It seems there's a lot of people interested in the stars wacky style - she recently beat the likes of Blake Lively and Michelle Obama to win the title of Vogue's best dressed celebrity of 2010, with a huge 42% of the vote.

You've got to hand it to her - the girl has guts! (excuse the pun... i couldn't resist!)
